As time passes it becomes increasingly clear to me the difference between projects intranet and enterprise 2.0. Usually I happen to work for both and I understand more and more that the differences are - of course - less instruments of governance models below ( I've already spoken below , however).
Who organizes a project of enterprise 2.0 is faced with if, in general, two subjects:
- Clients / sponsors
- Employees (which is then split into champions and everyone else).
Sometimes the project expands to other departments, but still animated by this fundamental bipartition (charo quite an example of this approach is a recent post from Bertrand Duperrin ).
Those who organized a project intranet ("traditional", but also innovative) has in front of you, from the beginning, at least three subjects:
- Clients / sponsors
- Employees
- The actors / editorial enlarged / contributors / owners
Of course omit the galaxy of actors revolve around the technologies that are the same for both dimensions (IT consultants, suppliers, etc.).
Now, this third level is particularly sensitive because it involves different kinds of shapes, different weight and different title. Are included in it:
- Referrals communication
- Institutional Editors
- Managers of local intranet sites
- Holders of particular content
- Responsibility Application
- Head office scattered across the organization
- Managers Forum, blogs, FAQs for interactive applications
Of course, the composition, role and contents vary from company to company but the substance that remains in intranet projects we need to deal with this mass of people, which determine the long run the success or failure of the project. This is because all these people are responsible for providing official content and updated to manage the quality of responses and discussions, to cover all the information needs of their target population.
A grind.
Naturally Enterprise 2.0 projects have their good problems and there want to go over now and now I just wanted to reiterate how often this level of governance is the true discriminating between the two dimensions.
In this respect, we mark a nice post by Jane McConnell who for some advice on governance , and another post from J. Boye on how to best support the "content owners" in projects involving a migration of intranet content.
